The MAP TAC-1 Tubing Anchor/Catcher is a retrievable double grip tubing anchor designed to anchor the tubing string in tension or in compression. When installed with the proper amount of tubing tension, the TAC-1 Tubing Anchor/Catcher prevents movement of the tubing string during rod pumping operations. This in turn will extend the life of the pump, rods and tubing, as well as decrease pumping costs and prevent the tubing and rods from failing in case of parted tubing.
The TAC-1 Tubing Anchor/Catcher incorporates an emergency shear release system, which is easily adjustable in the field. Each pin is 2,200 kg (5,000 lbs.).
Operation Procedures Running & Setting
1. Install the anchor/catcher in the tubing string, above or below the pump.
2. Run the anchor/catcher to the desired depth and space out for the final required tension.
3. Rotate the tubing to the left to set the anchor catcher. The number of turns required will depend on the casing weight. The tubing will torque up when the slips have set.
4. To make sure that the anchor slips are solidly engaged with the casing, hold left hand torque on the tubing and set down 4500 to 6500 kg (10,000-14,500 lbs.) of tubing weight. Pick up and set down several times to be sure the anchor slips are properly set in the casing. Pick up to install the dog nut and land the tubing. Make sure the tubing is in sufficient tension when it is landed.
Note: Unless otherwise specified, anchors are furnished with a total of 22,240 kg (50,000 lbs.) Secondary release shears. Shear value may be easily changed in the field.
Retrieving
1. Lower the tubing to release tension and rotate to the right while working the tubing up and down slightly.
2. Should the anchor/catcher fail to release with normal procedures, an upward pull of the tubing string weight plus the total value of the shear pins will release the anchor catcher.
1. Position top sub (2) in vice. Apply pipe dope to top thread of body (3) and install into top sub. Make wrench tight.
2. ****test**** take top cone (11) and thread on body and check for alignment of stop screw in cone and shoulder on body. Hold top cone (11) and see where screw and shoulder come in contact. They should overlap at least 1/2 the width of the stop key. If they do not pull another top cone and repeat above procedure.
3. Remove top cone from body.
4. Install friction pad compression tool on the drag body (4). Install friction pads (5) and friction pad springs (6) 3-each per pad in drag body.
5. Apply grease to upper portion of body and square threads. Slide drag body assy over end of body until it comes in contact with shoulder on the upper end of the body.
6. Screw top cone (11) on body with notch pointing towards drag body assy until the stop screw against the shoulder.
7. Position slips (14) and slip springs (13) in slip housing (12). Use #8-32 X 1/2 cap screws to hold slip segments in place. Slide slip housing assy over end of body (3).
8. Apply pipe dope to threads on drag body assy and screw the two pieces together. Back off slip housing until screw holes line up and install cap screws (7) 4-each. Remove compression tool.
9. Rotate slip housing until screw holes in top cone (11) line up with slots in slip housing. Install low head cap screws (10) 4-each.
10. Slide bottom cone (15) over end of body (3).
11. Apply pipe dope to bottom thread of body (3) and install bottom sub (21). Make wrench tight.
12. ****test**** slide bottom cone (15) over set screws (19) in bottom sub (21) to insure free movement. If cone does not slide completely over set screw then file down set screws.
13. Grease shear pins (18) and press into holes in bottom sub (21) 12-each. Apply pipe dope to thread on bottom cone (15). Slide shear pin cap (16) over bottom sub and thread to bottom cone. Install set screw (17) 2-each. This completes the assembly
